BRENDAN KERR
1st Place Winner
I am an artist, photographer and musician. I have been participating in Banding Together Jam Sessions that developed my love for music.
I found out I have perfect pitch and music is a way of expressing myself and sharing experiences with friends and the community. I play in the band Jungle Poppins as a bass player and we now appear as guest musicians for Banding Together Jam Sessions. Banding Together has also given me the opportunity to play in the musical Shine with Jason Mraz.
Banding Together Guitar ~ Digital
1st place entry
I play guitar. The guitar is a symbol of playing music together and it also shows 10th anniversary. The colors are cool.
Banding Together 10th ~ Pencil
I play guitar and the bridge and the hole look like 10 to represent 10th anniversary. Banding Together is drawn to flow like sound in the shape of the guitar.
Banding Together 10th ~ Digital
I play guitar and the bridge and sound hole look like the number 10 and that represents the 10th Anniversary of Banding Together. The colors show bright energy.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "Wow! Brilliant use of the "10th" as guitar elements. The color choice on a black background gives a nice neon effect which works well in the night life of the music venue world. Really well done."
AUSTIN JONES
2nd Place Winner
I am an artist on the autism spectrum and I love creating art especially about musicians. I usually draw my pieces by hand and then scan them into Photoshop where I apply color and do the final touches. I hope you like my work and want to put one of them on a t-shirt. I especially like the Eddie Vedder one because of his San Diego connection, but I like that I got to see BB King live here in San Diego.
Eddie Vedder ~ Digital Art
I love music and I love Eddie Vedder because he lived in San Diego and some of his songs are so beautiful and make me feel so good. I really like Daughter.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "A personal fav. I had a speech class with Eddie at San Dieguito High back in the day. As far as i know Eddie has never played the Belly Up (either with Pearl Jam, solo or another band) but it is fun to imagine what that gig would look like."
The Thrill is Still On ~ Digital Print
2nd place entry
My dad took me to see BB King at the Belly Up and I loved it. I really like his music and that he called his guitar Lucille.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "Marvelous representation of the late great BB King. Bonus points for the personal connection that you got to attend that gig. Pink is a bold choice for spotlight color but it paid off here nicely."
Beyonce Strikes a Pose ~ Digital Print
I like to make people smile and I think Beyonce makes people smile. She sings so beautifully and dances really well.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "The subtle little queen bee on the tiara was an excellent choice and perfectly reinforces who the portrait is."
ETHAN MARR
3rd Place Winner
Music ~ Colored Pencil
3rd place entry
Songs and music for Jam Sessions
Judge ScroJo feedback: "I really like the thought that went into this, incorporating so much musical imagery fluidly into the design. I love the use of the bass as the "T"."
ALEX NICHOLS
Happy ~ Painting
I did it as an abstract awhile ago. It is called Happy because music makes me happy.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "Very happy indeed. Great vibrant use of color and motion. This would make an awesome fabric pattern."
DAVID REYES
Music ~ Marker
Banding together makes me think of being a part of the Valhalla HS marching band percussion section. My drawing reminds people of music and how music can change peoples lives in a good way.
Music ~ Colored Pencil
This picture is a softer version of the marker picture.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "Fun and vibrant. I love the black/gold/purple/blue color combo on the musical note. I absolutely agree that music can change people's lives."
EVAN KARR
I had so much fun doing these drawings for the t-shirt contest!

Judge ScroJo feedback: "I really appreciate all the work that went into the hand-lettering and the eye-catching color choices. Very smart idea of incorporating "Banding Together" onto the drum head. I like!"
JOEL ANDERSON
I was one of the original members of the Kingsmen Band back in 2008. Banding Together gave many people the opportunity to come together and play music and make friends just like we did in the original band. It really makes me happy.
Banding Together 1 ~ Graphic Art
"Banding Together" means bringing together musical people of all shapes and sizes, skills and talents. It brings color and harmony to make something beautiful.
Banding Together 2 ~ Graphic Art
Banding Together means that everyone of is a rockstar. Together they shine bright and make beautiful music.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "These would make great posters. Excellent use of type-hierarchy where the most important info (Banding Together) commands attention first then the secondary information (10th anniversary, 2010-2020)."
RICKY BURRITT
Rainbow ~ Acrylic Paint
Ricky wanted to paint a rainbow for Banding Together. His rainbow represents ALL people who love music coming together no matter who they are or what abilities they have, making beautiful music for everyone to see like a rainbow. Ricky's rainbow has no end it is infinite like the circle of friends he has met doing jam sessions.
Judge ScroJo feedback: "We kept gravitating back to this one. The freedom in the brushstrokes really appealed to us plus it leaves the viewer with an open-ended opportunity for interpretation."
Musical Note ~ Acrylic & Pen
All it takes is one glimpse of this little symbol to start hearing music in your head. When Ricky sees a musical note, he automatically gets happy :)
Judge ScroJo feedback: "Very happy indeed. Great vibrant use of color and motion. This would make an awesome fabric pattern."
SIERRA MCCARTHY
Thank you for letting me participate!
Banding Together ~ Digital Art
I decided to add some different fonts and images to help spice up the theme a bit!
Judge ScroJo feedback: "Great direct piece. Gets the message across in no time flat. A lot to be said for being visually concise in my opinion. Really impressive combination of the bold san-serif headline (Banding Together) and the soft flow of the cursive (10th anniversary)."
TIFFANY PARK
Banding Together Art ~ Pencil
Playing music and sing together is fun!
Judge ScroJo feedback: "I dig all the work that went into the hand lettering. What I really love about this piece are the star and drum illustrations. I think those were my favorite elements from all the designs. You could pull just those two and they'd make a great looking shirt design."
