Not sure what a Jam Session is? This is a social music group for aspiring Rock Stars (youth and young adults 13+) to jam along with guest musicians and each other while exploring social skills. All designed and led by a board-certified music therapist! Click here for more details or scroll down below the video more information on the registration process!
--------------------------------------
Jam Sessions are offered in 4 locations throughout San Diego county - Carlsbad, Point Loma, El Cajon & Chula Vista. As well as 1 location in Miami, Florida.
This program is open to individuals of all functioning levels. Visuals, iPads and other accommodations are incorporated as needed to each individual to participate at their fullest potential. In addition, instrument adaptations (open tuned guitars, EZ Play keyboards, keyboard guides, picture lyric sheets, etc.) are used to adapt instruments for a variety of musical abilities.
A parent (or guardian) completes the registration form about the abilities and preferences of their student. This form requires them to acknowledge that their student meets the age requirement (13 and older) and describes their student’s music preferences and abilities. In addition, information regarding their communication and motor abilities, sensory needs and accommodations, and presence of aggressive behaviors is obtained.
Parents are encouraged to share tips and strategies effective for their student. Completed registration forms are reviewed by a music therapist and families are contacted directly for follow up when needed. If a student requires one-to-one assistance from a trained aid, the parent is required to attend the group with their student or provide a trained aid or therapist to give support during the group. While our volunteers receive basic training, they do not have the experience necessary to manage aggressive or challenging behaviors.
